How to put a voice message QR code on a card or gift

Add a voice message to a card, photo frame, or gift tag. Choose PNG or SVG, leave space around the QR code, and test your finished print.

A QR code gives someone a way to open your recording from something they can hold. Point a phone camera at it, open the link, and press play. There is no app to install.

Give it a little context

A line beside the code helps the person know what to expect. Try “A birthday message for you” or “The story behind this photo,” followed by “Scan to listen.”

  • Tuck it inside a birthday or anniversary card with your handwritten message.
  • Put it on the back of a framed photo, alongside the names and date.
  • Add it to a gift tag so the recipient can hear why you chose the gift.
  • Place it beside a photo in a family album, with a story told by the person in it.

Print one and try it

Your downloads include the QR code as a PNG and an SVG. You can print it on its own or add it to a card you are making.

  • Start with a code at least two centimeters wide. Make it larger if your phone struggles to read it; size alone does not guarantee a scan.
  • Use a dark code on a light background, with the blank border around it intact.
  • Use the PNG for a simple print, or give the SVG to a print shop if they need to resize it.
  • Scan the printed copy with your phone before you make more. Check it again once it is attached to the card or gift.

If the printed code will not scan

First check the listening link directly. If the page opens, inspect the print: restore the blank border, use a darker code on a plain light background, and try a larger size. The clear margin is part of the code’s design, so do not trim it off or run lettering into it.

Try the code in the place it will be used. Glass can reflect light, a curved tag can bend the print, and a textured surface can break up the small squares. Test after framing or attaching it, with the recipient’s phone if possible.

Help the recipient on their first listen

Write “Open your phone camera, scan, then tap play” beside the code. Let them try it while you are there, with the phone volume turned up. You can also send the listening link in a message so they have another way to open the same page.

Why some QR subscriptions stop working

A printed QR code contains information such as a web address. Some services put their own redirect address inside it, then send the visitor on to another page. If that redirect depends on a trial or subscription, access can change when the plan ends even though the printed squares have not changed.

For example, QR Code Generator documents that its trial dynamic codes lead to a service page after the trial; its static codes are unaffected by that trial restriction. That is one provider’s model. Check the terms of the particular service you used, and try the printed code before giving it to someone.

At Say it Again, you pay once with no subscription or renewal fee. The QR opens your listening page, which stays online while Say it Again operates unless you request removal. Payment does not make a printed code an offline copy of the sound. Download the MP3 and offline page too, and read our hosting and download commitments.

Share it with care

Anyone who has the code or listening link can open the page. Keep that in mind when choosing where to put it. Your private downloads link is separate; keep that one for yourself.

Say it Again is a digital keepsake. Printing and physical gifts are up to you. The listening link stays the same, so you can use the same code if you make another card.
